Automatic Region Detection
Simvia automatically detects and fills in the Region field when you add or update organisations. This reduces manual data entry and improves reporting accuracy.
The region is determined based on available data:
- Address details
- Geo-location (latitude and longitude)
- GlobalG.A.P. Number (GGN)
The system only auto-fills the region if the Region field is empty. This supports regional compliance checks, including water risk assessments.
How It Works
Adding a New Organisation
When creating a new organisation:
- The Region field is automatically populated based on the provided address or GGN.
- No manual region selection is needed if sufficient data is available.
Bulk Import
When importing organisations in bulk:
- If a GGN is included, Simvia retrieves supplier data (name, address, country, and geo-location where available) from the GlobalG.A.P. database.
- The Region field is then automatically determined and filled.
This ensures consistent and reliable regional data across your supply chain.
Existing Organisations
For organisations already in your account:
- Region data is backfilled automatically if the Region field is empty.
- If a region is already filled in, it will not be overwritten.
Important rules
- The system performs a one-time sync.
- If you manually clear the Region field and save the organisation, the system will re-evaluate and auto-fill the region again (if sufficient data is available).
Region Detection Logic
When a GlobalG.A.P. Number (GGN) Is Provided
The GlobalG.A.P. database may provide geo-location and/or address information. The system uses the following priority:
1. Both Geo-Location and Address Available
Geo-location takes priority because it provides higher precision.
- The region is determined using geo-location.
- The geo-location is displayed on the Organisation Details page.
2. Only Geo-Location Available
- The region is determined using geo-location.
- Missing country or address details may also be filled automatically.
- Geo-location is stored and shown in the organisation details.
3. Only Address Available
- The region is determined using the address.
- The address is not converted into geo-coordinates for detection, as address-based coordinates are less precise.
When No GlobalG.A.P. Number Is Provided
If no GGN is entered, the system relies entirely on manually entered data.
The region will only auto-fill if one of the following combinations is provided:
- Country + Postal Code
- Country + City
- Latitude + Longitude
Adding street name and number improves accuracy, but without one of the combinations above, the region cannot be determined automatically.
Recommendation
If a supplier has a GlobalG.A.P. Number (GGN), it is strongly recommended to add it.
Simvia will automatically retrieve available data and certificates, improving both accuracy and completeness.
