Release Note #4 - Automatic product specification extraction and an important update on product supply chains - September 2025

Dear Simvia user,

We’re very excited to share you can now automatically extract product specification data from documents! In addition, we want to give you a quick heads-up about an upcoming change in how product supply chains are managed. Read on for details and demo videos.

Product Specs Extracted Automatically

Our AI Document Scanner now captures key details from product specification documents and technical data sheets — making your product data easier to manage, search, and filter.

The Scanner can automatically extract:

  • Supplier product ID (article number) – matched to your products if the same ID is in your portfolio
  • Supplier product name
  • Allergens (based on the EU allergens list)
  • Complete ingredient list
  • Nutritional values (e.g. energy/fat/salt/etc. per 100g)

Once extracted, you can use this data in filters. For example: “Show me all product specifications that contain ingredient X.”

The Document Scanner extracts key details as Additional Information.

Automate compliance with requirement rules

The extracted data can also be checked against your requirement rules, automatically flagging issues during request review or on requirements pages.

For example, you can set rule to:

  • Reject products containing allergen X for a certain product.
  • Block specifications that include E-numbers (e.g. E153, E220).
  • Only accept products if specific allergens are absent.

Benefits

  • Reduce manual data entry with AI-powered data extraction
  • Filter products to quickly see which meet your compliance criteria
  • Reduce risk and save time by spotting issues earlier
  • Gain faster insights into product composition and stay aligned with buyer requirements

Heads-up: Product supply chain management is changing

In a few weeks, we’ll release an improvement to how product supply chains are mapped.

Currently, products can only be added at the organisation level, which means they appear in every supply chain that organisation is part of. This becomes limiting when the same supplier provides different products through separate supply chains.

With the update, you’ll be able to map not just organisations, but also how specific products flow between them. This better reflects real-world supply chains and ensures product-specific requests always reach the right suppliers.

Important: Supply chain migration may affect your setup

As part of the update, we’ll migrate existing supply chains where products are already tagged to organisations. In some cases, this may cause inaccuracies.

  • Not all accounts will be affected.
  • If your account is impacted, we’ll contact you in the coming weeks with details and clear steps to fix any issues.

Soon you’ll be able to map different product supply chains that share the same suppliers.
